2020 ECMX: Round 2 Wrap Up

East Coast MX emerges as one of the first major events in a new and uncertain world post the Covid-19 lockdown. Round 2 was held last weekend at the iconic Dargle raceway on the Hawkesbury River NSW. The Dargle track offered a mixture of old school style layout with fast sixth gear natural terrain straights, flat speedway corners, with some sandy corners and uphills thrown in the mix.

Championship leader of the 7-8 65cc class Seth Thomas rode his KTM to victory again with 2-1-1 finishes. Local KTM rider Ky Woods found his form and took the overall win in a very competitive 12-15 85cc class. Woods tied on points for the win with championship leader Jyle Campbell but won on countback with a win in the final race of the day. KTM rider Cooper Holroyd got great starts and rode smart to consistent 2-2-3 finishes in the premier junior 13-15 250 4-stroke class taking the overall win for the day and the championship lead.

In the senior classes although Factory Yamaha Enduro team Luke Styke won the MX Open class and only dropped one race to his French teammate Jeremy Carpentier, Dubbo rookie star Blake Fox rode like a veteran running top three in the MX Open class on Saturday, and then dominated the 250 Pro class on Sunday winning all four motos. Shannon Lewry worked his way to the front quickly in 30-39 Vets races putting the championship leader Trent Brochtrup on notice that he came to play. Brochtrup never gave up and managed to win the last moto with a gutsy last-lap pass down the fastest section of the track, but Lewry won three out of four races to take the overall win.
