Beta’s 2020 X-Trainer 300 2T
Question: What’s the most hotly contested market segment for enduro bikes? By far and away, 300cc two-strokes – here in Australia, and in many other countries around the world. Currently, a 300cc two-stroke is the biggest-selling enduro model for KTM, Husqvarna, Sherco, Gas Gas and Beta in Australia. And the demand is similarly insatiable for the up-specced, special-edition 300s these brands all offer.
What sets Beta aside from the rest of these manufacturers is the fact they also offer a down-specced 300cc two-stroke – the X-Trainer 300. Now in its sixth year of production, it’s a lower, detuned version of their RR300, designed as a cost-effective ‘stepping-stone’ machine for those who don’t want or need a seriously equipped enduro weapon, or aren’t quite ready for one. But, according to Beta’s PR, it’s not only for inexperienced riders: “Designed as an entry-level off-road bike, the X-Trainer appeals to many different riding abilities, including new off-road riders wanting to ride trails as well as more experienced riders for extreme terrain.”
That versatility is reflected in the fact that the X-Trainer 300 is Beta’s second biggest-selling model here in Australia. And for 2020, the X-Trainer has been revamped. It gets a counter-balanced engine, updates to the bodywork and chassis, lower seat height, oil injection, and a host of other changes…

- New crankshaft: Matched with the new counter-balancer shaft, the new crank has a new flywheel to help smooth out the power and vibration.
