2025 AFTN KICKS OFF IN MARYBOROUGH

Yamaha bLU cRU will be returning to support the Aussie Flat Track Nationals as the 2025 season launches this weekend at Maryborough’s Action Park this weekend on July 26-27. This will mark the first visit to Maryborough for the series where the Pro 450 class will again feature the best flat trackers in the country, including the title rematch between Tom Herrick and Jarred Brook which last year went down to the final race.

The pair will battle for the coveted Bunda Fine Jewels gold and diamond ring and title of National Champion but they will be challenged by a star studded capacity field over two days of competition. The popular AFTN format will see riders compete on a standard flat track on Saturday, then take to the TT track on Sunday. Four races per class each day means the riders fitness is tested and the action is thick and fast for the crowd. The support card at Maryborough will include also include the best Australian female flat track talent, as well as the ever-popular Junior Lites and Junior 85s.

“We’re excited to kick off the 2025 season Aussie Flat Track Nationals in Maryborough this year, the series has never ventured this far north – it’s further testament to the growth of the sport and that’s in a big part due to the continued support of our partners such as Yamaha, Motul, MXstore, Dunlop, Fist and now Kawasaki. This year we will welcome back all our top riders from last season as well as featuring the Women’s class, which is a fully accredited national championship and will rotate with the popular Pro Twins class at selected rounds. We’ve got plenty of innovation this year with Wodonga and Griffith on the calendar for the first time, and at Griffith we will race under lights.”

This blockbuster opening weekend of racing combines two separate rounds on two different track layouts, with special thanks to the Maryborough Motorcyclist Club who have not only recently refurbished their flat track surface, but have also prepared a brand new TT track for Sunday. Reigning champ Tom Herrick is ready for the rematch with Jarred Brook, but said, “I don’t see the situation between Jarred and I as a rivalry as such, I just go out there to do my best in every race.”

Brook, a Sunshine Coast local, says there will be no home track advantage, “I’ve raced there three times, but twice it rained right before the event so it was difficult to get a gauge on the surface. Even if it does rain, I don’t think anybody will have an advantage just because it’s all so new.” Other local talent includes ASBK Superbike star John Lytras and Ronan Jacobs riding a bike supported by Australian Road Services.

While Herrick and Brooke are galvanised for the rematch, the opposition will come thick and fast, including reigning No. 3 Cameron Dunker (Yamaha), Daniel Wicks (KTM), Dale Borlase (Yamaha), Jett Carter (KTM), Ronan Jacobs (KTM), John Lytras (KTM) and Aussie off-road legend Ben Grabham (GASGAS) who still has plenty of dash. Two-time Junior Lites champion Cooper Archibald (Husqvarna) is also stepping up to Pro 450 to test himself against the best flat track riders in the country.

The Maryborough schedule also includes Junior Lites and Junior 85 – a large chunk of riders from exceptional performances in the Australian track and dirt track championships earlier this year – as well as a Women’s class which will rotate at selected rounds with the Pro Twins category.
