2016 AUS-X Open: Results

7 years ago | Photos: AUS-X Open

The largest action sports competition in the southern hemisphere – the AUS-X Open – has concluded for 2016, and Australian hero, Chad Reed, lit the candles on both nights as he took home back-to-back SX1 Main Event wins at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on November 12-13.

Reed defeated four-time AMA Supercross Champion, Ryan Villopoto; the eventual 2016 SX1 Australian Supercross Champion, Justin Brayton (who was crowned on Saturday night); 250SX West Coast AMA Supercross Champion, Cooper Webb; American stars such as Wil Hahn and Kyle Peters; and Australia’s fastest motocross and supercross racers en route to victory.

“It feels awesome to win the two nights here at the AUS-X Open,” said Reed. “I felt good all weekend, and having the crowd on my side as much as they were was absolutely awesome. I love this event, and I’m all for coming down to Australia, so hopefully we can get back here next year.”

Penrite Honda’s Gavin Faith won the SX2 Main Events on Saturday and Sunday, however it was Serco Yamaha’s Jackson Richardson who secured the 2016 title following a last-lap bike malfunction (which resulted in a DNF) from DPH Motorsports Yamaha’s Hayden Mellross who was trailing Faith in second, comfortably poised to lock up the championship.

In the Monster Energy FMX Best Trick competition, Australia’s Clinton Moore took home $20,000 on Saturday, while Frenchman Tom Pagés walked away with the big bucks on Sunday.
