2015 Red Bull X-Fighters Preview
Red Bull X-Fighters Mat Rebeaud, Brody Wilson and Harry Bink showed their high-flying freestyle motocross tricks alongside an ancient “Dance of the Flyers” ceremony – a ritual created to appease the gods during a drought while Red Bull X-Fighters was created just to please the crowds…
Mat Rebeaud of Switzerland, Australian Harry Bink and Brody Wilson of the United States performed some modern-day freestyle motocross tricks as part of a high-flying warm-up for the 2015 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour opener in Mexico City (taking place this Friday night) alongside the traditional “pole flyers” just outside Mexico City. The spectacular “Danza de los Voladores” ceremony consists of four airborne people spinning upside down around a 30-metre-high pole while their feet are tied to the pole by ropes as they descend to the ground. While the dance, along with Mexico’s famous ancient Pyramids of the Sun nearby, symbolised the country’s rich heritage, the Red Bull X-Fighters embody everything modern about Mexico.
The riders of the 2015 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour will push their tricks to the limits in Mexico City in the Plaza de Toros Monumental bullring, where they jump up to 30 metres in distance and 15 metres high. The world’s best FMX athletes – including former World Tour champions, Tom Pagès of France (2013), Levi Sherwood of New Zealand (2012), Spain’s Dany Torres (2011) and Mat Rebeaud (2008) – will be displaying dazzling new tricks perfected during the winter at the season opener.
Reigning Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour champion, Australia’s Josh Sheehan, will miss the first round this year, but will be back for the next four stops in an attempt to defend his title.
