2015 AMA Motocross: Stock Market
With five rounds down in the 2015 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Transmoto’s Jackson Reardon paused to take a look at four riders outside the top five standings in their respective class from the comfort of his couch, giving them a buy, sell or hold rating. Let’s see how his predictions stack up in a few weeks’ time!
The 450 Class
Christophe Pourcel: Buy
A mystery wrapped in a mystery. Christophe’s style and speed is the one constant through his career. His upside potential is as high as anyone in the championship, and coming off an excellent performance at Mt Morris I believe we may see more top five Overall results and podium rides further into the season.
Cole Seely: Hold
Cole had a very tough first two rounds, but has since been well inside the top ten in each moto, even scoring a fifth Overall. Seely is a far better supercross rider in my opinion, and finishing inside the 6-8 range throughout the outdoors should be considered a good performance. Hold Cole for the 2016 AMA SX season where he can do some serious damage.
Chad Reed: Sell
It has not been a good outdoor campaign for Chad thus far. This weekend’s result at High Point was typical of his season so far; his first moto DNF was unexplained, and he did not show up on the line for moto two. Between the controversy regarding running his Fly 360 helmet cam, and his mixed results, who knows where this season will go for Chad. It would be a shame for his last MX campaign to end like this but I fear we will not see Reed outdoors again; let’s hope he gets it together for one more run at supercross in 2016.
Wil Hahn: Hold
Wil is one of the most popular riders in the USA – an all-round nice guy in the pits. There is no doubt he has had a tough run of injuries, and his slow start to the outdoors should have been expected. He is working his way further towards the front each week, and a ninth Overall at High Point was a promising showing. I expect we will see further improvement from Wil throughout the year.
The 250 Class
Christian Craig: Buy
His debut season ride at Thunder Valley is in my opinion one of the best of the season so far. Literally coming out of retirement, Christian set the fastest lap of practice, and then rode to a 4-6 for fifth Overall. He put a tough weekend in Tennessee quickly behind him to finish seventh Overall at High Point; Craig should continue to get better over the season.
Alex Martin: Buy
Alex has been fantastic. His improvement over the last two years has been amazing, and training with Jeremy obviously has something to do with it. He has shown he can run up front with podium finishes in motos at Glen Helen and High Point, and has also charged from the back of the pack to excellent results. Expect to see Alex on a factory-supported team in 2016.
Hayden Mellross: Buy
How cool has it been to see Jackson Richardson and Hayden Mellross chase their dream across the other side of the world and then end up battling with each other? Hayden is coming back from a few injuries; however the training done with Tim Ferry is slowly paying off. Don’t let a tough weekend at High Point fool you: Mellross is only just starting his upswing and I believe he can start hitting top ten Overall finishes pretty soon.
Chris Alldredge: Sell
Alldredge began the season with a fantastic third Overall at Hangtown, however since then he has been inconsistent and average due to a mix of crashes and poor starts. These issues are the same ones that plagued his supercross season, however as a rookie I would not be surprised if he turned it around next week for another podium – his speed is that good. Until we see evidence of an end to these issues however, I think Alldredge would be a risky ‘stock’ to buy.
