Wild Weekend for Yamaha @ Wollongong

It was an action-packed weekend at round three of the Australian Supercross Championship at Wollongong for Yamaha riders and teams. With over 11,000 spectators watching on a fast, flowing track, Yamaha Racing experienced every high and low on Saturday night.

CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team

Jed Beaton continued his steep learning curve in supercross, achieving new personal bests on his way to fourth place in the SX1 division. Beaton’s comfort on the track grows each round. Although not yet on par with the international riders, he’s closing the gap, with Wollongong marking another step forward for both him and the team.

Beaton delivered a solid performance, finishing fourth in each of the three motos in the Triple Challenge format. This consistency keeps him in fourth place overall in the championship.

“I am feeling more at home on supercross with each race and seem to be learning the tracks faster,” Beaton shared. “I’m measuring my progress by how close I am to the leader, and that gap is getting smaller, which is a positive. I still need to work on whoops and make my starts more consistent, but I’m really enjoying racing supercross and hope to crack the podium before the season’s end,” he concluded.

Matt Moss had a more challenging night after a series of crashes in practice and qualifying, ultimately deciding to sit out the race.

“It’s been a disappointing start to the season for me, and I’m gutted that I haven’t been able to get the results my team and I deserve,” Moss said.

Yamalube Yamaha Racing

It was a rollercoaster evening for Yamalube Yamaha Racing, with highs and lows for all three riders.

Kaleb Barham was the team’s standout, finishing fifth with consistent 5-4-6 results. This performance marked an improvement for Barham after a tough start at Redcliffe.

“It was a better night for me, and I was consistently near the front of the pack. My starts were better, which gave me good track position in each race,” Barham said.

Jayce Cosford followed closely in sixth, with 6-2-10 moto scores. A trip off-track in race one, a strong second place in race two, and a first-turn crash in moto three defined his night.

“That was a frustrating end,” Cosford admitted. “I felt good on the bike, and my first two races put me in a strong position for the podium. But that chance disappeared after the crash in the final race.”

Ryder Kingsford showed promise early, taking pole in qualifying for the second time in three rounds. Unfortunately, a first-turn pile-up in his heat race left him with a thumb injury, ending his season.

“My season is over, and I’m booked for surgery this week,” Kingsford announced. “I was running towards the front, but we tangled in turn one. That’s racing, but it doesn’t make it any less disappointing.”

WBR Yamaha

In the SX3 class, WBR Yamaha had a mixed night, with two riders finding success while two others struggled. Koby Hantis led the team with a second-place finish, climbing to fourth in the championship standings. Seth Burchell, finishing fifth, maintained his SX3 championship lead, though the gap has narrowed to just a few points. Kobe Drew and Kayd Kingsford both suffered crashes, making it a tough night for them.
