WEBB & BARCIA – BOTH OUT OF AMA SX!

2 years ago | Words: Matt Bernard | Photos: KTM and GASGAS

Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing Team’s Justin Barcia, who was victorious at the previous AMA Supercross round in East Rutherford, unfortunately suffered a broken collarbone after a hard crash during the main race at Nashville. Barcia had qualified third-fastest and won his heat race earlier in the day, and had quickly worked his way into third place in the main race before the crash occurred.

Meanwhile, two-time 450SX champion Cooper Webb’s 2023 AMA Supercross Championship title challenge has come to an early end due to a concussion sustained in a crash during the opening heat race of the night at Nashville. Webb had secured nine podium finishes over the course of the opening 14 rounds, including two 450SX Main Event victories in Tampa and Arlington, respectively. He entered Nashville ranked second in the standings, 11 points outside of the red plate prior to his crash. Webb has been cleared of any additional major injuries, but he will be absent from the final two rounds of the 2023 season.

Chase Sexton claimed victory in the main event, while championship leader Eli Tomac finished second and lost three points to Chase, but managed to extend his lead to 18 points due to Webb earning zero in Nashville. With Barcia out due to injury, Ken Roczen now has a chance to take third place overall in the 450SX Championship standings.
