Unveiled: All-New Ducati Scrambler Models

3 years ago | Words: Matt Holmes | Photos: Ducati Media House

Off the back of Ducati’s Scrambler models hitting the milestone of 100,000 units in the wild, they’ve gone and launched the next generation of Scrambler models.

Completely redesigned, some four kilos lighter, and laden with next-gen rider aids, the 2023 Scrambler also packs a livelier L-twin powerplant under its highly customisable exterior.

THE ENGINE

A key element of the Ducati Scrambler’s success has to be the classic Desmodue engine. Free of plumbing, air-cooled and with two valves per cylinder, the 803cc engine pumps out a cool 73hp. The exhaust, also evolved, has even more essential lines and the turn of the headers leaves the engine fully exposed in all its belt-driven glory.

THE ROLLING CHASSIS

That distinctive trellis frame has been updated and lightened for a dry weight of 170kg, with a new rear subframe and swingarm changes seeing the mono shock moved towards the centre-line of the bike.

THE TECH

Up front, a new dash with a 4.3-inch colour TFT cluster allows access to a host of new tech. Underpinning the simplicity of the Scrambler chassis is the introduction of ride-by-wire throttle management, alongside the adoption of Ducati’s Traction Control plus two Riding Modes: Road and Wet. The new engine also has the option to mount a Quickshift, which is standard equipment on the Full Throttle model. Cornering ABS comes to the party, which if anything like the system on the DesertX, is a real game changer.

THE AGILITY

Riding improvements come from a slightly steeper steering head angle for more agile handling, faster seat and handlebar changes, plus a set of newly designed 18” front and 17” rear wheels, which add even more handling fun to the Scrambler.

THE CUSTOMISATION

Customisation from the dealer floor has become a whole new ballgame, with nine colours available for the Icon version, thanks to the steel tank’s redesign, adding an interchangeable cover that, along with the fenders and details on the headlamp, give the bike its colorway and allows for easy customisation. Anodised aluminium covers below the tank complete the re-envisioned design of the bike.

THE MODEL OPTIONS…

Three Ducati Scrambler models have evolved from the above formula so far: the Icon, Full Throttle and Nightshift.

DUCATI SCRAMBLER ICON – $15,895

The Icon version represents the Ducati Scrambler in its purest form. Customisable with nine colour options and an accessory catalogue to truly make it yours.

DUCATI SCRAMBLER FULL THROTTLE – $17,995

Ducati’s Scrambler Full Throttle is the rowdiest in the 2023 range, inspired by its US flat track exploits over the years. Standard equipment is a Quickshifter and Termignoni exhaust (these are also available as accessory options for other Scramblers).

DUCATI SCRAMBLER NIGHTSHIFT – $17,995

With low, swept bars, bar-end mirrors and a beautifully upholstered seat, the classic and refined details move the Nightshift into that cafe racer feel.

The Ducati Scrambler Icon, as well as Full Throttle and Nightshift, look to be arriving at dealerships here in Australia in March, 2023. Based on these three, we are stinging to see the new-gen Desert Sled. You can watch the Ducati World Premiere release of the 2023 Scramblers here for the full deal, or an abbreviated edit here.
