Toby Price’s Custom KTM 300SX

We were warned that when Toby Price was set to rock up to the recent Day In The Dirt Down Under, he would bring a whole fleet of crazy toys (from his garage, of course) with him to rip around on. Sure, to see the man himself aboard his championship-winning KTM Dakar bike was definitely a crowd pleaser, and the turbo noises coming out of his maniacal Can-Am buggy was enough to scare you out of your swag. But the one thing that stood out for us was his beautiful – dare we say, sexy – custom KTM 300SX that he wheeled out of the trailer. We were all itching to see Toby fire it up and tear up the track at Queensland Moto Park, but this machine is a piece of art, and we don’t blame him for not wanting to get it muddy.

Rundown

Engine/Performance Parts

The bike itself is a 2018 KTM 250SX. Now, you might be wondering where the “300” comes into play, right? Well, Toby opted for the KTM Factory Racing 300cc kit to give it that extra grunt – after all, he is one of the best big-bore riders in the world. The guys over at Akropovič Exhaust are being held responsible for the amazing port work and fresh logos on the custom CNC head from Two Stroke Parts.
Because you can never have too much power out of your two-stroke, the boys threw in new Vforce reeds from Gas Imports just for that extra bite. And of course, it’s not a true custom build until you throw on a blingin’ Hinson Racing clutch and clutch cover, all held together with titanium bolts from MotoKote.

Wheels & Tyres

In the traction department, Toby went for a set of Michelin Tyres front and rear, combined with what we think is a unique and awesome rim/hub combo. You can’t go wrong with a set of gold Kite Hubs laced up to a pair of black Excel rims, can you?

Brakes

With all that power in the palm of your hand, you have to be able to stop with the tip of your fingers. A set of ARC levers is where all the stopping power begins, combined with a set of Brembo callipers biting into Moto-Master rotors ensures that the big girl will pull up if Toby ever decides he wants to slow down.

Bling Bits

We all can agree the one thing that really ties this bike together has to be all the black coating done by the boys over at Worx Performance Coatings contrasted by all the titanium bolts and pegs by MotoKote, that brings back a bit of pop to all the stealthiness. Teencee Graphics did an absolute ripper of a job on the graphics kit. The black and silver Red Bull kit is anything but traditional, and we love it. Keeping with the stealthy look, the subtle grey racing numbers tie into the graphics really well.

Hear what Toby had to say about the finished product…

“So stoked on how this build came out. The end result was badass, and seeing it in person is better again, I think! Bummed I didn’t get to ride it but the wet conditions would have destroyed it, so I saved her. I’ve got to give a massive thanks to Peter Macalpine for putting the bike back together and the companies that helped make this bike possible. If you’re looking to build something similar, these are the guys to use.”
