The Story Behind Price’s New ‘Haircut’

The Dakar Rally is the biggest off-road race in the world, with massive prestige and contingency payments going to the winning manufacturer and rider. 2019 has been a very special Dakar for Australia with our homegrown hero Toby Price taking home his second Dakar Rally win.
We’ve all see the press about his epic win, but did you catch wind of the story going around about a bet and his iconic mullet? It went a little something like this… if Australia’s Toby Price manages to retain his lead and go on to win this year’s race, it not only will it mean KTM’s 18th win on the trot and a very fat payout for Pricey. It’ll also mean (even if he finishes in the top five positions) he’ll get to pash KTM teammate Laia Sanz for five dirt-faced seconds. WTF? Yes, it’s part of a bet made between the Aussie and Spaniard ahead of the event. A little one sided right? Well, if Sanz finishes inside the top 15 she’ll also get to hack Price’s trademark mullet off. Larrikin rider humour at its best! Documented and signed on a stray sheet of paper towel by all parties. And as Toby said, “Once you make a bet, you need to go through with it”!
Luckily for fans, both sides to the bet came true – well almost… Toby walked away with a “skullet” rather than no mullet.
