Schubring takes Maddo’s spot in Sydney X-Fighters
Freestyle motocross veteran and Aussie pioneer Matt Schubring has driven through the night from the sand dunes of South Australia, to compete in the Red Bull X-Fighters world tour; in Sydney tomorrow on Cockatoo Island.
Schubring, mid way through a national tour of his own, received a last minute call up from the X Fighters event organisers only yesterday at lunch time – without hesitation he turned his van around and started heading to Sydney. The Red Bull X Fighters is the most prestigious freestyle motocross (FMX) tour in the world; a spot became available for Schubring when series competitor Robbie Maddison was injured in yesterday’s practice.
“I was out riding in the dunes, miles away from anywhere when I received a call to head to Sydney. It’s such a huge opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd at the first ever X Fighters event here; I really can’t wait!” Matt Schubring said.
Schubring has competed in an X-Fighters competition previously, in 2007 when he made the trip to Madrid, Spain, finishing 7th. The 29 year old is realistic when queried on his expectations for tomorrows show down.
“I definitely don’t have the ideal preparation leading into tomorrow. I’ve missed one practice already and travelled all last night to get here – in saying that, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got!
