In early December, the motocross world was saddened by the news that KTM’s 19-year-old MX2 factory racer, Rene Hofer, had died in an avalanche while skiing in Austria, along with two of his friends.
The multi-time junior champion had enjoyed a breakout 2021 season, claiming his first GP win (becoming the first Austrian GP winner since Heinz Kinigadner in 1987) and winning the MX2-class overall at this year’s MXoN in Italy. Aside from these achievements and the bright GP future that lay ahead of him, Hofer will be remembered for his approachable, fun-loving and friendly personality and ever-present smile.
Shortly after the funeral service, KTM released this video to celebrate the life of the universally liked Rene Hofer and his racing career.
