Review: SJS Smart Start Charger

A product the Transmoto team has tried, tested and would recommend to a mate.

WHAT IS IT?

It’s a multi-purpose, portable 500Amp Lithium-Polymer battery charger and jump-start pack. The product is 240V Australian Standards approved and comes in a zip-up carry case that contains insulated jumper leads, wall and car chargers, and multi-volt charging adaptors and cables. It’s also available in a 400Amp (SSC01) and 600Amp (SSC06) option for $109 and $199, respectively.

WHY WE RATE IT

If you’re miles from the nearest power source and discover you’ve got a flat battery in your car, bike or phone, it’s a problem, right? Not any more! This thing has saved our arses countless times in the past 12 months, which is why it now goes everywhere we go. Aside from the convenient fact it’s capable of jump-starting your vehicle (up to a 3L diesel or 6L petrol), the carry case comes with enough cables and adaptors to make the SJS charger capable of juicing up everything from your bike’s battery to a mobile phone, tablet, camera or helmet camera. In short, it means you can leave the house without thinking, and feel confident that you’ll be able to get yourself out of trouble. This Lithium-Polymer battery charger holds its charge for literally months on end, and we particularly like the idiot-proof asymmetrical plug on the jumper leads, which means it’s impossible to get it arse-about and destroy your battery.

For $149, the SJS Smart Start Charger is a no-brainer. Buy the thing from www.kenma.com.au, charge it up and leave it under the front seat of your car. And to make it even more practical, combine it with SJSs’ 80psi Air Compressor ($39.95), which plugs into the charger and lets you effortlessly pump up your bike or car tyres.
