PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: FOX MOTION BOOT

2 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Fox Racing Australia

As the global leader in motocross and mountain bike gear and apparel, Fox Racing always seems to have a range of price points in various product categories – whether you’re talking about riding gear, helmets, goggles or protective equipment. Curiously though, Fox’s MX boot program has had a large gap between their entry-level boot (the Comp) and the top-of-the-line offering (the Instinct) for some time now. And we say “curiously” because it’s the mid-priced boot that’s the big seller in many brands’ boot ranges.

Well, Fox has final addressed that ‘gap’ in their MX boot range with the introduction of the Motion Boot – an all-new $500 model that fills the gap between the $350 Comp and $700 Instinct models. The Motion boot is a high-performance, race-ready boot with Fox’s patented Hinge Lockout system, and it spearheads what Fox is calling “The next generation of motocross boots”. Yep, Fox’s Comp and Instinct models have also been rebuilt from the sole up, and feature sweeping updates to grip, durability and protection, along with a new patented buckle closure system. And with Fox finally making their MX boots available in half sizes, there’s an instant step up in the fit and comfort.

The guys from Fox Racing Australia have flowed us a pair of the all-new Motion boots to test, so stay tuned for our feedback on them in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s a snapshot of the features that appear on the Fox Motion Boot…

  • Microfiber synthetic leather upper for superior comfort, fit, flex and durability;
  • TPU shin plate, toe cap, heel cap and calf guard are designed to provide coverage;
  • A slim medial design and Duratac™ burn guard for improved grip and feel on the frame;
  • Low-ride chassis brings the foot lower and closer to the footpeg for enhanced feel on the brake and shifter;
  • Slim toe-box for easy shifting and a slimmer overall profile;
  • Air-mesh treated with Microban for antimicrobial and odour control solutions provides a comfortable lining;
  • Composite Nylon-Fibreglass cuff to secure the ultimate coverage to the ankle and superior fit;
  • Patented Hinge Lockout stops motion before hyperextension;
  • New patented buckle closure system provides a secure lock and perfect fit throughout the boot;
  • Exclusive Fox Duratac™ rubber compound provides excellent durability and unprecedented grip on outsole and burn guard
  • Composite Nylon-Fibreglass Insole Board with Anti-Shock Pad at the heel supplies impact resistance, stability and support on the pegs;
  • Moulded EVA footbed with antimicrobial lining offers comfort, cushion, odour control solution and support during the ride; and
  • Replaceable sole and sole insert

According to Jeff Sagud, Global Director of Merchandising at Fox Racing (who led the team that began designing the new boots three years ago, when Fox Racing refocused on becoming a hardgoods innovation leader), “The all-new Motion boot was designed for the weekend warrior, elite youth riders, and all genders that have varying foot shapes and sizes. We’re embracing our role to be more inclusive for a major segment of riders.”
