Product: Motool Slacker Digi Sag Scale

A product the Transmoto team has tried, tested and would recommend to a mate…

What Is It?

It’s a digital tool that measures your bike’s fork and shock sag in real time via a retractable “slacker” cable. It comes with a universal magnetic mount and remote display so you can set your suspension’s sag by yourself.

Why We Rate It

Setting static sag and race sag – particularly on your shock – is critical to a bike’s handing. And yet this simple task gets routinely overlooked, often because it’s difficult (if not impossible) to accurately measure sag by yourself. The Slacker Digital Sag Scale from Motool changes all that. Once the unit’s powerful magnet mounts to your bike’s steel axle (it still holds firm through alloy axle nuts), you then extend the retractable cable to a fixed point on the sideplate or frontplate/ headlight, zero the digi readout, and measure your sag as normal. By far and away the most practical feature of this product is its remote display. Once plugged in, it can be velcroed to the handlebars to give you an easy-to-see real-time display of the sag while you’re sitting in the saddle (without turning around and corrupting the measurement!). It’s also particularly useful for setting sag on Kayaba’s and Showa’s new air forks. Its backlit display means you can even do it in the dark, and it turns itself off after five minutes if you forget to.

Our only complaint is that the small bracket to which the cable attaches can move and affect the reading – which is why we drill a small hole in the sideplate to attach the cable directly. To optimise accuracy, it’s also important to avoid bumping the unit when taking the bike off the static stand, so we mark its mounting position on the axle nut with a texta for back-up.

Put simply, this tool is easiest and most accurate way to measure sag available.
