New Product: Dunlop MX33 Tyres

8 years ago | Photos: MX Nationals / Foremost Media

If you wander around the pits at a MX Nats or AORC round, you’ll notice a bunch of the top race teams use Dunlop hoops these days. And the brand’s soft-to-intermediate terrain MX3S seems to have been the choice of a disproportionately large number of Pros riders, even when the terrain begins to get harder. Now, according to Dunlop, these riders now have an even better option: the Geomax MX33, which replaces the MX3S and includes a new rear size option for MX bikes, a 120/90-19.
The all-new MX33 has been developed with the help of the world’s top Pro MXers and, says Dunlop’s PR, the MX33 represents “the new industry standard for soft-to-intermediate terrain” with “Dunlop’s innovative new technologies offering superior grip, slide control, bump absorption and enhanced durability.”
But what exactly is new with Dunlop’s Geomax MX33? Here’s a snapshot of the key updates:

  • Front tyre now features ‘Block-In-A-Block’ technology to aid in linear tracking and improved steering.
  • Altered Block-In-A-Block shape on the rear increases surface area of the rear block, while additional tread angles enhance grip, stability and slide control.
  • Front and rear tyres include new tie-bars that connect each knob, improving durability by reducing flex at the base of the knobs.
  • New Advanced Apex Design improves shock absorption by diffusing shock through a taller, thinner apex inside the sidewall.
  • Multiple Block Distribution provides more blocks in the rear tread pattern compared to the Geomax MX3S, increasing the contact patch for better grip and slide control.
  • Carcass Tension Control System allows even flex throughout the tyre for increased bump absorption.
  • An all-new compound in the front and rear tyres enhance durability without sacrificing the legendary grip of the Geomax line.

THE MX3S vs THE MX33

Here’s how each piece of tyre technology improves performance:

  • Block In A Block: Offers more progressive cornering action and additional slide control.
  • Soft Terrain: Works in soft terrain and loamy soil.
  • Off-Road: Works in a mix of packed and loose soil.
  • Intermediate Terrain: Provide grip and handling for off-road performance.
