Introducing the all-new factory Yami team – Bewley, Roberts and Green
Seven-time Australian off-road and enduro title winner, AJ Roberts, former Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) Outright winner, Jarrod Bewley, and young gun Josh Green have signed on to form a second factory Yamaha off-road team for 2012.
The team, dubbed the Active8 Yamaha Yamalube Racing Team, will debut November 20th at the Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro event, just outside Melbourne.
All three riders will contest the race on YZ250F’s. In 2012, the team will have one rider in E1 on a YZ250F and two in E2 on WR450F’s.
Roberts, 28, from Bribie Island, will also act as Team Manager.
“Yamaha dominated the 2011 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship and A4DE, with eight national title wins,” Roberts said.
“We know that the bikes are both fast and reliable, and with the release of the new fuel injected 2012 WR450F, our aim is to show how competitive this bike is and to continue Yamaha’s off-road title sequence.
“The addition of our team will help Yamaha build on their success and I am very excited for this new opportunity.
“It’s a totally different direction for me than normal, and it was good to be able to make it happen for other riders as well. I picked Jarrod and Josh because they’re the best possible riders for the team. There’s a lot of good riders out there, so you have to make sure you have a team strong enough to match their level. I believe we do. Josh has a lot of experience, even though he hasn’t been racing that long. He’s done a year and a half in world enduros, and scored some impressive results. Josh has got a bit more to learn, but his enthusiasm is unbelievable. That’s all you can ask for from any rider, just to be keen. Jarrod’s like the quiet achiever. He’s a bit under-rated, but also has a very impressive resume. Jarrod got second at Finke in his debut, he won the A4DE Outright (when he was on a Yamaha) – a feat I haven’t even achieved. He’s got a lot of credibility and is a strong rider for the team.”
Roberts said he wished to thank the team’s major sponsors: Active8 Refrigeration & Electrical, Yamaha, Yamalube, GYTR, Force Accessories and Michelin.
“Yamaha has always been 100 percent committed to the sport of enduro, and their sponsoring of our team this year is further testament to just how deep their support goes,” Roberts said.
“We are also very excited to welcome Active8 Refrigeration & Electrical – a company servicing Queensland with electrical installations, air-conditioning and refrigeration from homes to commercial sites.
“Adrian Treasure, the Managing Director of Active8 Refrigeration & Electrical, is an enduro rider himself and was thrilled to be playing a major roll in the making of a new team in conjunction with Yamaha.
“A sincere thanks to all of our main sponsors… we are looking forward to a bumper opening season in 2012.”
Roberts was last on a Yamaha machine in 2006, when he won the AORC Outright and the A4DE 450cc class crown.
Josh Green is 21-years-old and lives at Soldiers Point (NSW Central Coast).
Jarrod Bewley is 24 and resides at Oberon (NSW).
