HISTORY: FARRES & TRIUMPH TAKE WORLD MX2 CROWN

Spain’s Guillem Farres wrapped up the 2026 FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship in the opening moto at Darwin’s Hidden Valley – handing Triumph its first-ever motocross world title, the Manufacturers’ Championship, and a 1-2 in the final standings, all in just its third season in the class!

Three seasons. That’s all it took Triumph to go from MX2 debutant to world champion – and they got it done on Australian dirt, in the first moto at Darwin’s Hidden Valley on the weekend, with Guillem Farres shadowing teammate Camden McLellan home for the points he needed. Add the Manufacturers’ Championship and a 1-2 in the riders’ standings, and you’d struggle to script a tidier season for a factory team that started the year as an outsider. Farres steps up to MXGP with the squad for 2027; McLellan stays in MX2 as the guy everyone will be chasing.

Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres has been crowned the 2026 FIM MX2 Motocross World Champion after placing second in the opening moto at the MXGP of Australia, the final round of the series. The Spaniard captured his first world title while at the same time also securing Triumph’s first ever FIM motocross world title. With Farres’ teammate, Camden McLellan, finishing the season as runner-up in the MX2 title race, the duo’s impressive season-long results underlined the performance of the TF250-X. Rounding out a history-making year for the team and brand, Triumph won the MX2 Manufacturers Championship in just its third year of competing in MX2.

The 2026 FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship has undoubtedly been a huge success for Triumph. The season started with both riders on the podium in Argentina, with Farres and McLellan winning 11 of 19 Grands Prix throughout the year.

Since taking control of the championship after winning Triumph’s home Grand Prix – the MXGP of Great Britain in July – Farres never relinquished the series lead. Across his championship-winning season, the 23-year-old won 14 motos and six rounds including a mid-season run of four consecutive GP wins during the summer. Together with six further Overall podium results, Farres ended the season with a 36-point lead over McLellan.

McLellan also impressed throughout the campaign and he led the championship early in the season after winning round two in Spain. As the series progressed, the South African continued to perform and won five Grands Prix in total, including back-to-back wins at the final two rounds in China and Australia. Besides his victories, McLellan landed on the overall podium eight times to highlight his career-best season in MX2 and he will start the 2027 season as a title favourite with Farres moving up to the premier MXGP class with the team next year.

With an exceptional season complete, the whole team will now return to Europe and enjoy a day of celebration at Triumph’s headquarters in Hinckley, England. Attention will then turn to the FIM Motocross of Nations, where Farres will represent Team Spain with McLellan lining up for South Africa.

“It’s been an unbelievable weekend here in Australia. We wrapped up the championship in the first race, with Camden taking the win and me finishing second, which was an amazing feeling. In race two, I got off to a decent start in third, but I didn’t quite have the pace and ended up finishing fifth. Overall, it’s been an incredible season and definitely one I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I’m super happy with everyone around me. Triumph and the whole team have done an amazing job all year. It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve made the best of every situation, and I’m really happy and proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

“What a year! It was another great weekend here in Australia and I had a lot of fun on the track. I never really felt that good, to be honest, but I made it work and I’m really happy with how we finished the season. Most of all, I’m proud of the whole team. They deserve this win and they deserve the championship. To finish first and second in the championship and also win the Manufacturers’ Championship is awesome. It’s been an incredible year for Triumph, so a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
