After wrapping up the Australian Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals Pro Opens in third, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Billy Mackenzie made his return on the World GP stage in Great Britain over the weekend.

The Scottish rider had a great debut in Moto 1, sitting in the top three for the majority of the race before fading back to seventh in the 35-minute moto plus two laps — a much more physically intensive race compared with the 15-minute motos in the Australian MX Nationals.

However, in Moto 2 Mackenzie had a run in with TM Factory Racing’s Tanel Leok after Leok came up short over a jump but Mackenzie didn’t. Mackenzie’s front wheel landed on the back of Leok’s bike and they both went down hard.

Sources say the two riders didn’t sustain serious injuries. With neck and back pain and a concussion, this lucky duo should make a full recovery.

The race was red flagged and MX1 competitors lined up again 30 minutes later. Both riders didn’t restart.
