Bike: 2016 Yamaha WR450F
The all-new WR450F has been the worst-kept secret in the industry for more than 12 months, but the timing of its arrival sure took everyone by surprise! Yes, Yamaha’s 2016-model WR450F has broken cover in the USA and Europe, while the Australian version of the machine will be officially unveiled at the Australian MotoGP in Phillip Island later this month.
Like Yamaha’s YZ450F, the 2016 WR450F will come equipped with a rearward-slanted, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-stroke powerplant with four titanium valves, as well as a wide-ratio five-speed transmission (not the six-speed, which the new WR250F runs), plus an 18-inch rear wheel, enduro-spec suspension settings and the convenience of a switch-free electric starter and lighting system electrical system.

Just like its 250cc sibling, the 2016 WR450F features a YZ-bred aluminum bilateral beam frame with engine mounts and chassis rigidity optimised for off-road riding conditions, plus a fully adjustable YZ450F-based KYB (spring-type) 48mm USD fork and shock. The machine also boasts an oversize 270mm front brake disc, radiator fan, optimised clutch for enduro application, sealed O-ring chain and hard-plastic skidplate.
The Australian release date and prices (both for the 2016 WR450F and its racier cross-country cousin, the YZ450FX) will be confirmed by Yamaha Australia following next weekend’s Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island. Stay tuned.
