BETA’S BRITS BRAIN ’EM IN SPAIN!

2 years ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Betamotor

After an injury-marred 2022 season, Beta’s two Factory Enduro Team riders – each multiple EnduroGP World Champions, Brad Freeman and Steve Holcombe – sure seem to be back in their groove this year, with the Brits each claiming double wins in their E3 and E2 classes, respectively, at Round 2 of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship in northwest Spain on the weekend. On top of cementing their places at the top of their E3 and E2 class standings, Freeman and Holcombe also finished with an impressive 1-1 and 3-3 in Spain’s EnduroGP (Outright) results.

The dominant Round 2 showing from the Beta duo sees Freeman sit atop the EnduroGP standings with perfect 1-1-1-1 scorecard giving him 80 points. Teammate Holcombe has carded 3-3-3-3 EnduroGP finishes at the opening two rounds of the championship for a total of 60 points, which puts him in equal-second place alongside reigning E1 and EnduroGP champ, Andrea Verona.

“I am happy to come home again with the Gold Plate as the leader of the EnduroGP Class,” said Freeman. “The race in Lalin [Spain] was not easy, but we got the maximum, double win in the EnduroGP and double win in the E3 class. Now we have a very challenging Scandinavian double GP ahead of us.”

Holcombe was similarly upbeat, but measured in his assessment of the weekend’s work in Spain. “A very good weekend here in Spain. The feeling with the bike is perfect, but we still have to work to improve some details. Now we have a double GP in Finland and Sweden, which will be very demanding and we have to arrive prepared and focused.”

The FIM EnduroGP World Championship resumes for Round 3 in Heinola, Finland, on May 26-28 May.
