AUSSIE SX ROUND ONE: PREVIEW

4 days ago | Words: Matt Bernard

The 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship is set to kick off its highly anticipated first round at Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe this weekend. This year’s series promises some of the most exciting and competitive racing in recent history, with a stacked line-up of Australian and international stars taking on the challenging tracks.

Reigning champion Dean Wilson returns to defend his SX1 title, but he’ll face tough competition from U.S. supercross star Joey Savatgy, who is racing the full series with the Factory Honda Racing Team. Savatgy will be joined by teammates Aaron Tanti, a former Australian Motocross Champion, and Wilson, who will be looking to maintain his reign. Nine-time Australian champion Matt Moss will also be a serious contender, riding for CDR Yamaha Monster Energy alongside his teammate, Jed Beaton, who is coming off a runner-up finish in the 2024 ProMX Championship. Another top challenger is Luke Clout, the 2023 SX1 runner-up, riding for Empire Kawasaki and aims to go one better this season. How about KTM’s Nathan Crawford, could he surprise in return from injury?

The surprise inclusion of Shane McElrath in the SX2 class, along with Cole Thompson, sets the stage for a showdown against a strong lineup of Australian talent, including the in-form Kayden Minear and the lightning-fast Reid Taylor. These riders, along with a host of other high-revving SX2 competitors, promise an exciting battle in the upcoming races.

The CR22 Cup will give the groms a dedicated class to compete in, with Chad Reed’s son, Tate, returning for more action in 2024. Chad Reed will also serve as an official ambassador for the series.

Where to Watch:

  • In Australia: All races will be streamed live and free on Kayo Freebies, with on-demand options available as well.
  • International Viewers: MAVTV will broadcast the series across 30 countries, giving fans around the world a chance to tune in.
