FARRES SEIZES MX2 TITLE LEAD AT FOXHILLS

A faultless 1-1 at Triumph’s home Grand Prix in Great Britain hands Guillem Farres his third straight overall win and the MX2 World Championship lead, with teammate Camden McLellan backing it up on the podium in third.

Three from three, and now the red plate to go with it. Guillem Farres has made it a third consecutive Grand Prix win, going 1-1 at Triumph’s home round in Great Britain to leapfrog to the top of the MX2 World Championship standings in front of the brand’s own home crowd at a circuit the series hadn’t visited since 2000. It wasn’t just a one-man show, either. Teammate Camden McLellan backed it up with a 4-3 for third overall, Triumph Factory Racing’s second-straight double podium and its first ever on British soil.

With overall victories at the last two Grands Prix, Farres was understandably feeling confident ahead of the trip to Great Britain. The 12th round of the campaign saw the series return to Foxhills in the South West of England for the first time in 26 years. With its hardpack, rutted surface, big jumps, and steep hills, it was clearly to the liking of Farres who kicked the weekend off with a strong second in the qualifying race.

In the opening moto, Farres continued with his impressive run of form by taking the holeshot and from there, he led every lap on his way to winning his 10th race of the season. It was a similar story in the second moto, with Farres moving into the lead on lap two and after a mid-race battle with Simon Längenfelder, he raced away to another victory. Farres’ exceptional performance sees the 23-year-old now take over at the top of the MX2 World Championship standings with seven rounds remaining.

McLellan also impressed throughout the weekend and returned to the overall podium for his efforts. Riding with a strong pace, he started well in both races and posted a 4-3 result for third overall on the day, securing a another double podium for Triumph Factory Racing and the first one on British soil. Leaving Great Britain, Camden maintains fourth in the championship.

Also in action at Foxhills as a wildcard was Dirt Store Triumph’s Billy Askew. The British rider finished 12th in race one and 17th in the second moto for 14th overall in front of his home crowd. American racer Lilly-Ann Pettus competed in the WMX Women’s Motocross World Championship and placed 15th overall. With a hugely successful and pivotal Grand Prix complete, the team return to action next weekend at the MXGP of Czech Republic, followed by the MXGP of Flanders one week later.

Guillem Farres:
“Sunday at Foxhills was a really good day. In the first moto, I got the holeshot and led every lap for the win. The second moto was another good race. I started second, moved into the lead quite early after the rider in front had a small crash, and then Simon Längenfelder and I put on a good battle with a few passes between us. In the end, I was able to come out on top and win the race. I have total confidence in the bike and I’ve not made any changes to it for quite some time. It’s of course really special to win at Triumph’s home Grand Prix too for my third win in a row, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going over the next few rounds.”

Camden McLellan:
“Foxhills is done, and overall it was a pretty positive weekend. There were some good things to take away, especially with the starts, and my riding wasn’t too bad either. The second moto was particularly strong, so now we need to understand what changed between the first and second motos and carry that momentum into the remaining races this season.”

“This was a new track for everyone. Very technical and challenging, but overall we had a really good weekend. Saturday was positive for both riders. Guillem had a strong qualifying race although he was a little unfortunate to make a mistake on the final lap. In the end, though, it was probably a good reset and helped him refocus for Sunday. The Grand Prix races went really well. Guillem won again, while Camden finished fourth and third for third overall. I think we showed how important it is to have Camden back fighting at the front, while Guillem continues to build on his momentum. Both riders delivered this weekend, so we’re very happy with their performances. Now Guillem is leading the championship, but we’ve been in this position before with Camden, so there’s no reason to get carried away. It’s nice to have the red plate, but the championship is still long. We have to stay focused, keep working hard, and keep our minds on the job.”
