Honda Dominates SX2 Championship at AUSX
Not unfamiliar with a Supercross championship, Honda Racing’s supremacy at this year’s Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) continued into the SX2 class with a clean sweep of the podium. After an undeniably dominant season with four overall wins, it was Polyflor Honda rider Shane McElrath who secured the championship win.
Hailing from the United States, McElrath expressed he didn’t originally jump at the opportunity to compete down under when Team Director Yarrive Konsky reached out. Alas, McElrath’s decision to compete in AUSX ultimately worked out in his favour. He now leaves Australia with a championship, and heads straight to Abu Dhabi for the final round of the World Supercross Championship (WSX) – to which he currently leads in the SX2 class.
McElrath’s teammate and New Zealander, Brodie Connolly, made his Supercross debut this year after a successful Australian ProMX season where he secured the MX2 title prior to the final round. Connolly claimed third in the SX2 class, while ahead of him was Boost Mobile Honda rider Cole Thompson. Honda’s fourth rider, Alex Larwood, rounded out the season in sixth place while Noah Ferguson remained sidelined with injury for the season following round two.
Yarrive Konsky credited the riders for Honda’s incredible success:
“Honda dominated both the 450 and 250 championships, winning every round. It’s truly remarkable and may never be repeated.”
Shane McElrath highlighted the teamwork and preparation that led to this achievement:
“It’s unreal. I’m thrilled with the bike, the team, and what we accomplished together. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
Brodie Connolly on his SX2 campaign:
“I came in with an open mind and learned so much from my team and teammates. This is a great foundation, and I know exactly what to work on for next year.”
In the SX3 class, Mongrel Boots Honda’s Jake Cannon claimed 2nd overall after a season filled with ups and downs.
“Yes, literally ups and downs. I had the pace to win but made costly mistakes. Consistency will be my focus moving forward. It’s been a great year, and I’m grateful to the team for their support.”
