PROMX IS GO FOR GILLMAN

2 weeks ago | Words: Matt Bernard

The Thor MX1, Pirelli MX2, and MAXXIS MX3 Championships are all shaping up to be fiercely contested at the upcoming Gillman round of the Australian ProMX Championship. Here’s a breakdown of the key contenders and storylines heading into the event:

Thor MX1 Championship:

  • Jed Beaton (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) leads the championship with a slender five-point margin after an impressive second round. His consistency will be tested by the softer terrain that favours his rival Kyle Webster (Boost Mobile Honda Racing), who excels in such conditions.
  • Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team) is holding onto P3 after his first-ever MX1 moto victory and will look to continue his momentum.
  • Defending champion Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) needs a strong performance to close the 23-point gap to the leader. You can never count out Ferris.
  • Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout narrowly missed out on a race win or podium at Horsham, highlighting his competitive edge. Local favourite Kirk Gibbs of GASGAS Racing Team and veteran Brett Metcalfe of GO24 Racing Kawasaki, possibly in his final season, are determined to secure strong results on their home turf at Gillman.

Pirelli MX2 Championship:

  • Brodie Connolly and Noah Ferguson of Honda Racing Australia have dominated the MX2 class, commanding a significant lead in the championship.
  • Ryder Kingsford (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) is third in points and aiming to challenge the Honda duo after a podium finish at Wonthaggi.
  • The competition behind the leaders is tight, with racers like Rhys Budd, Kayden Minear, and Byron Dennis in pursuit.

MAXXIS MX3 Championship:

  • The MX3 category has seen intense racing with three different moto winners and a close points battle.
  • Koby Hantis (WBR Bulk Nutrients Yamaha) leads the championship with a narrow margin over his teammate Kayd Kingsford.
  • Jet Alsop (KTM Racing Team) and Kobe Drew (WBR Yamaha) are also strong contenders in the MX3 class.
  • The Gillman round promises to be pivotal in this tightly contested championship.
