PATAGONIA ABOARD THE DESERTX

3 years ago | Words: Matt Holmes | Photos: Ducati Media House

When it comes to bucket list adventures, heading to one of the wildest and remote places on earth should probably be in your mix. With endless expanses of desert, towering mountains and breathtaking views, Patagonia is the adventure of a lifetime, and according to Ducati, even more unforgettable when tackled on a DesertX.

With the rapidly-becoming-infamous Ducati Rider Experiences (DRE) we know here in Oz, don’t for a minute think that Ducati across the globe don’t have similar adventures for you to tackle aboard their finest bikes. You’d have to say they’ve upped the ante with their latest epic in South America. While you may have missed this ride in the video below, there’s more scheduled in the future, including one starting on May 27 if you’re just itching to GTF out of the daily grind!

Think a six-day, 1000km trip riding the DesertX through one of the most remote and evocative places in the world. Starting in El Calafate, in the heart of Patagonia, the recent trip saw the crew exploring the most iconic places in the far south – the Perito Moreno glacier, through boundless grasslands, the Desert of Patagonia, lakes, and places of incredible beauty and charm – before heading further to Torres del Paine and one of the most beautiful stops you can make in Patagonia: the dirt tour of Torres del Paine National Park. Dirt trails in a true paradise on earth, among lakes, waterfalls, grassy expanses, glaciers, high mountains (2884m) and towers of granite.

It’s definitely a trip to do once in a lifetime. Get yourself there, and Ducati take care of the bike, meals and the like. It’s not suitable for novice pilots, but anyone with intermediate riding experience and above will be fine. The trip is 40% on-road 60% light off-road, all on a bike just itching for this type of ride, the DesertX.
