To prevent that thoroughly unavoidable scenario, the guys from Maxxis Australia have prepared the following handy tyre recommendation guide to ensure the hoops you fit to your bike are best suited to the region you’re riding in.

RIVERINA REGION OF NSW

The NSW Riverina region extends from the rocky foothills of the Snowy Mountains to the flat, dry inland plains of Hay and Carrathool. With huge tracts of bushland, the odd shaley rock outcrop, undulating grasstrack and significant elevation changes, it’s an absolute riding paradise.

An intermediate-to-hard terrain tyre is going to provide all-round performance here. If the conditions are dry and dusty, try a more extreme tyre option.

WIDE BAY & SOUTHEAST QLD

The Wide Bay and Southeast Queensland regions’ diverse countryside host a variety off-road and adventure riding with superb conditions – from sandy coastline and dense forestry trails to hard, rocky terrain in the west. These regions have hosted several Transmoto events, including the 2022 8-Hour at Miva Station, Gympie, where you’ll find a combination of hardpack, high-speed trails and tacky singletrail, along with sections of black riverbed sand.

An intermediate-to-hard terrain tyre is going to provide all-round performance here. If the conditions are dry and dusty, try a more extreme tyre option.

MID-NORTH COAST, NSW

The Mid-North Coast of NSW is a vibrant country region that lies between the Great Dividing Range and coastline. Riders are spoilt with beautiful natural terrain trails and fast, flowing forestry tracks with a full spectrum of riding conditions. With everything from fast, natural-terrain grasstrack to tight, technical singletrail – complete with rocks and plenty of slippery roots – this region demands a lot of versatility from your tyres.

A soft-to-intermediate terrain tyre is going to eat this terrain up and will be your best friend here.

NORTHEAST REGIONAL VICTORIA

North East Regional Victoria is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and bustling rural cities with an enviable outdoor lifestyle. This region is famous for prime bush trails, technical hillclimbs and undulating grasstrack with loose-over-hard riding conditions (and it’s home to the Transmoto 8-Hour at Wangaratta).

An intermediate-to-hard terrain tyre is going to provide all-round performance here. Depending on track conditions, you could try a soft-to-intermediate terrain tyre for extra bite in soft soil.

The South West Slopes region covers the lower inland slopes of the Great Dividing Range, extending from north of Dunedoo through central NSW and into northeast Victoria. It’s an extensive area that includes foothills and mountain ranges, consisting of a variety of rocks and soil types. Terrain is typically hard and high-speed, combined with some tacky singletrail, rocky hillclimbs and undulating grasstrack.

An intermediate-to-hard terrain tyre is going to provide all-round performance here. Depending on track conditions, you could try a soft-to-intermediate terrain tyre for extra bite in soft soil.
