2021 East Coast MX: Round 2 Recap
A challenging start to the year for the East Coast MX Series with Rnd1 at Maitland postponed due to rain and the 2nd day at Canberra motorcycle Club cancelled last weekend. On the plus side the East Coast MX Series has been well supported with over 400 entries for the 2 opening rounds so far. Since Coronavirus halted the 2020 ProMX, it has not been since 2019 that Australia’s best riders have hit the track for all out MX competition.
In preparation for the 2021 ProMX season a large contingent of the factory teams and riders turned up in Canberra to race the round of East Coast MX last weekend. The CDR Monster Energy Yamaha and WBR Bulk Nutrients Yamaha trucks were in attendance along with the Factory Honda Team and host of other factory riders like KTM Regan Duffy and privateer hopefuls. This is also the first time in about 5 years that we have seen Matt and Jake Moss racing together again.
Matt Moss was on point with his starts and even more impressive on the track passing his way into the lead in the MX Open race 1 and just continued to pull away from his rivals to the race win and with top 5 finishes in the rest of his races secured the overall win as well over CDR Yamaha Luke Clout and Factory Honda Kirk Gibbs. Clout got stronger as the day progressed winning the 3rd and 4th motos to finish 2nd overall behind Matt Moss. Gibbs also claimed a race win in the 2nd moto and consistent finishes to take 3rd overall for the day. Rhys Budd on his 250 Yamaha managed to pull out a 3rd place in race 1 against the big 450 bikes and also 4th overall for the day. Kyle Webster was also exciting to watch getting stronger as the day went on finishing 2nd in the final moto on his Honda 250 pressuring Clout for the win.
Yamaha GYTR Junior rider Kayd Kingsford claimed the win in the 12-15 85cc class winning 2 out of 3 motos and an outstanding ride from KTM rider Jack Deveson the 2020 9-11 65cc and 85cc champion with 2-2-2 finishes on the day in his first competitive 12-85cc race.
Yamaha rider Seth Burchell was dominant in the Junior 250cc class with 1-2-1 finishes but a 17th in race 1 on the 125cc left him outside the top 5 overall. Follow this link to view the full race results: http://www.eastcoastmx.com.au/results/
Due to the postponement for Rnd1 Maitland the East Coast MX calendar has changed for the 2021 season. The next round of East Coast MX will be on 8-9 May at Maitland. Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “Tough year so far, but I have a great team of people around me and we will persevere and we will succeed.”
Congratulations to the winners of Rnd2 East Coast MX in Canberra.
