Aussie SX Returns To The ’Gong!

Troy Bayliss Events has confirmed that Round 3 of the 2019 Australian Supercross Championship will be held at Wollongong’s iconic WIN Stadium on Saturday, November 9, with Yamaha Motor Australia the event’s major sponsor.
According to three-time Superbike World Champion and event organiser, Troy Bayliss, the WIN Stadium layout will be unique with a section of the track heading up onto the iconic hill, with Australia’s best racers set to take on some internationals on a full-size track, racing the ‘Triple Crown’ format in both SX1 and SX2 classes.

“In 2018, Troy Bayliss Events took the big step to put Supercross back into a stadium in Australia with Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium round. Now, Troy Bayliss Events is thrilled to be taking the NSW event back to an outdoor stadium,” explained Bayliss. “WIN Stadium is the perfect size with the crowd so close to the action. The location is second to none and I am really excited about the track layout. We would like to thank Destination Wollongong, Wollongong City Council, WIN Stadium and Yamaha for the support to allow Supercross to take place in Wollongong and within WIN Stadium. The Illawarra is rich with motorcycle champions and fans, and we can’t wait until the gates drop on November 9,” Bayliss went on to say.

The Wollongong round will also host another YZ65 Cup event – the Yamaha-backed grassroots race series that’s designed to give young guns their first taste of the big-time by racing in front of their supercross heroes and up to 20,000 fans. It will also coincide with the 2019 Australian Motorcycle Festival, which will take place at Lang Park (right next door to WIN Stadium) that same weekend.

World class stunt rider Robbie ‘Maddo’ Maddison will return home to the Illawarra on November 9 as a special guest to perform at Wollongong’s Round 3 of the Australian Supercross Championships too. Maddo plans to go big for fans on November 9 performing his famous Freestyle Motocross Stunts that launched him onto the International scene.
