Lucky Gilmore Wins Husky
As showcased by the highlights video for the 2018 Transmoto 8-Hour at Mackay, our inaugural event in Central Queensland was an absolute cracker. Perfect May weather in the tropics. A sweet race loop that included technical singletrail, flowing cane fields and the infamous Gum Valley MX track. And a really appreciative cross-section of riders for whom the 8-Hour was their first ever Transmoto event.
One bloke walked away from that Mackay weekend even happier than everyone else because he won himself a 2018-model Husqvarna simply for entering the event. His name is Jordy Gilmore, a 23-year-old Mackay local who couldn’t believe his ears when his name was drawn out of the hat on Saturday arvo.
“I wasn’t really paying attention when you blokes drew the winner for the bike there at Gum Valley,” admits Gilmore. “But when all my mates started hooting, I knew something was up. Initially, I felt a bit weird because my old man owns Redline Motorsport, the Honda and Husqvarna dealership in Mackay. But I paid my 8-Hour entry like everyone else and won the bike fair and square, so I got comfortable with the idea pretty quickly [laughs].
“After flowing me free bikes when I was really young, my old man knocked that on the head pretty quickly, which is fair enough. So at age 23, it was funny to rock up at Redline and wheel out a free bike again. I’ve been a Honda guy for a while now, but I’m looking forward to riding my new Husqvarna TE300. I really wanted to get one of the fuel-injected two-stroke models, but it’s also kind of cool that my bike will be the last of Husky’s carb-fed two-strokes, which means it’ll probably hold its value better than average. I didn’t know what to expect from the 8-Hour cos it was my first Transmoto event, but me and my mates had a ball there, and will be back next year with more mates for sure,” Gilmore went on to explain.
^ Redline Motosports’ Manager, Craig Kross, hands over the 2018 Husqvarna TE300 to his boss’ son, Jordy Gilmore.
For the record, Jordy’s ‘Wig Pealers’ team won the Young Guns (all riders under 23) team category, and ran a respectable 26th Outright.
