Silver City Desert Enduro

If you were at last weekend’s Hattah Desert Race, then there’s a fair chance you will have spotted a tantalising full-page ad in the race program about a “Silver City Desert Enduro”, to be held on the last weekend of August. But what exactly is this new event on the annual off-road calendar? Where’d it come from? Who’s running it? And is it right up your alley?

Based near Broken Hill in northwestern NSW, the Silver City Desert Enduro is the brainchild of Dirt2Ride Events’ Lyndon Heffernan; an all-new two-day desert enduro that’s run in conjunction with the event-savvy posse from Broken Hill’s Silver City Motorcycle Club, and presented by major sponsors, Kenda and Lucas Oil.

And, as Dirt2Ride’s Lyndon Heffernan explains, the August 26-27 event has been quite some time in the making. “I’ve run state and national MX events, A4DEs and Transmoto Enduro Events, but it has been a dream of mine to create my own ‘bucket list’ event. And after riding the iconic Finke and Hattah Desert Races, I knew it had to be a desert race,” Heffernan says. “After meeting the awesome crew from Silver City MCC, who had similar aspirations, the hunt for a great location was on. The Langwell Station circuit – situated 60km south of the iconic NSW Outback township of Broken Hill – was the perfect venue to create a two-day event in picturesque, rugged terrain that every dirt bike rider will want to have a crack at. The event caters to a range of Junior classes, to a Pony Express teams race on Saturday, and to Senior capacity and veteran classes on Sunday, so we’ve made sure there’s something for everyone. It’s all about mates riding with and racing their mates, and enjoying the spirit,” Heffernan went on to explain.

Along with Kenda, Lucas Oil and the Broken Hill City Council, Transmoto has come on board as an event partner, meaning entrants and sponsors can be assured of seeing lots of quality SCDE content showcased across the website and social media channels.

Tickets go on-sale on July 20, but for more information on the event schedule, categories and classes in the meantime, check out Dirt2Ride Events’ website.
