Coona’s Goanna Tracks

Coonabarabran’s Goanna Tracks motocross and enduro complex became an instant hit when it officially opened to the public in October, 2011. In the years since, it’s played host to rounds of the national motocross and off-road championships, and come July 15-16 this year, this epic riding complex will also be home to the inaugural Transmoto 8-Hour – the first of what we hope will be an annual feature on the Transmoto Enduro Event calendar.
Located 450km northwest of Sydney, the 1600-acre property features 65km of premium enduro loops, plus Junior and Senior motocross tracks, a sand track and, of course, a heap of dedicated trails and grasstrack that will be added specifically for the 2017 Transmoto 8-Hour. There’s the option to camp, and you’ll also find fully operational toilets, showers, canteen and cooking facilities.

Goanna Tracks is the brainchild of father-and-son duo, Tom and Grant Cromb, who brought their dream alive by building a world-class motocross and enduro facility to rival professionally operated complexes in America. After sustaining a back injury in a motocross crash at age 18, Grant was forced to give up racing, but he redirected his passion for the sport and, with his father’s help, raised the capital needed to purchase the land and establish the track. “With MNSW’s help and investment, it’s been a huge effort to get the facility to where it is today, and having flourished for more than five years now, Goanna Tracks has proved a real benefit to riders and businesses in the region,” says Grant. “And we’re now finding that people are travelling further afield to come and sample the incredible variety of terrain we’ve got on offer out here. Regardless of your riding ability, you’ll find something to suit you.”
And what does Grant think about Goanna Tracks hosting its first Transmoto 8-Hour in July? “Mate, it’s going to be really cool,” the 52-year-old says with the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. “The complex will be closed to the public for that July 15-16 weekend because our plan is to start the 8-Hour on a section of the motocross track. That’ll help spread riders out before they head into the trail and grasstrack sections that we’re custom building for the event. Like all Transmoto events, we want to make sure entrants have a unique track and fantastic experience. Lots of riders in the region are already pumped about being part of the 8-Hour, so if you manage to score yourself an entry into the first ever Transmoto event at Coona, you can be assured of one hell of a memorable time – both on and off the track,” Grant went on to say.
