The Christini All Wheel Drive System

Ever wanted an all wheel drive dirt bike? US-based company, Christini, can convert a Honda CRF450X to a mechanical all-wheel drive system powered by a series of chains and shafts. Philadelphia engineer Steve Christini designed the mod to step away from energy-sapping hydraulics.

According to Christini, “You can easily conquer the gnarliest hills, ruts, mud, roots and logs. The Christini AWD system also dramatically improves cornering and straight-line stability on all surfaces. The system makes the motorcycle noticeably easier to ride and substantially reduces rider fatigue, allowing you to ride faster for longer periods of time.”

As with some 4WD cars, power is transferred to the front wheel when the rear loses traction or the front starts to skid. “This allows for nearly unlimited fine-tuning of the AWD system to suit riding conditions and personal riding preference,” said Christini.

The system adds 6.8 kilograms of weight to the bike, which Christini says should have a negligible impact on performance.

If you’re a hardcore motocrosser, there’s a race-orientated version made with a Gas Gas 300 engine and other high-end competition kit.

There’s currently no Australian distributor for the kit, however you can find more information from their official website: http://www.christini.com.
