Bopping, Styke and Waters to lead Team Australia at MXoN
Motorcycling Australia has announced the Australian Team for the 2012 FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) to be held in Lommel, Belgium on 30 September.
CDR Yamaha’s Lawson Bopping will lead Team Australia, wearing the green and gold in the MX1 (450cc) class. Alongside Bopping will be Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing’s Luke Styke, who will take up the MX2 (250cc) position. Styke is currently a strong MX Nationals MX2 title contender, who managed to take third in the 2011 Australian Supercross Lites. Rounding Team Australia in the MX3 (Open) class will be Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Todd Waters, who is currently sitting in second place of the MX Nationals MX1 class. All first timers, Bopping, Waters and Styke will make up the youngest Australian MXoN Team to date, all aged between 20 and 22.
Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Ford Dale has been appointed as reserve for the MX1 and MX3 classes, and JDR/KTM’s Josh Cachia as reserve for MX2.
Michael Byrne had originally been scheduled in as the team’s MX1 rider, but suffered a broken leg at Unadilla last weekend in America.
