Thomas Pages wins Munich X-Fighters
Thomas Pages laid down three of the biggest non-backflip tricks in freestyle motocross to secure his maiden victory on Saturday at the penultimate round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, in Munich, Germany.
With an outstanding performance that left a frenzied crowd in Munich’s Olympic Stadium on its feet, Pages beat defending Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour champion Dany Torres to turn the title fight into a four-way battle. The flying Frenchman nailed three of the most difficult tricks known to mankind and pulled off a sensational victory over Torres on the biggest European course ever built without doing a single back flip – a trick he has steadfastly avoided since 2009.
Pages was able to move himself into a tied points lead position with New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood, who suffered a sub-par fifth place finish. Pages is now sits even on points at 235 with Sherwood. Torres, who scored back-to-back second places in Madrid and Munich, is now third with 185 points.
The stage is now set for an exciting showdown at the final round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour at Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour, October 6.
