Wet weather didn’t slow down the inaugural East Coast MX Series
Riders from all over the eastern seaboard descended on Macarthur Motocross Complex at Appin for the first round of the East Coast MX Series over the weekend. With over 350 entrants, the stage was set for some fierce rivalry and action packed bar-to-bar racing.
The Juniors kicked off the competition in perfect weather and track conditions on Saturday, with a full grids in some classes. Team SSRacing claimed victories with Riley Dukes (9-u12 85cc) and Aaron Tanti (13-u16 150cc 2st, 13-u16 250cc 4st) claiming six podiums between them. Other class winners include Connor Rossandich (7-u9 50cc), Riley Corrigan (7-u10 65cc), Rhys Budd (10-u13 65cc), and Dylan Heaton (12-u16 85cc).
After lunch on Saturday the rain came down and the loamy soil turned into a slopfest. The wet weather might have put a damper on the track conditions but not on the rider’s morale. The hardcore MX rider spirit was alive and well in all competitors and they did not let the circumstances get the better of them.
It was still raining on Sunday but the senior riders turned up and were ready to race. In the premier classes, Tee&Cee Grafix Corey James took out the Pro Lites, with James Targa winning the Pro Opens. Other class winners include Lenny Magyar (C-Grade Lites), Aidan Porth (C-Grade Open), Jarrad Davis (u19 Lites), Andrew Styles (30-39 Vets), Tayla Jones (Womans), and Dean Burt (40+ Vets)
The JDR KTM Team had flown out Josh Cachia and Daniel Reardon to compete in the first round of the East Coast MX Series. Even though Cachia and Reardon were keen to race and had signed on and scrutineered their bikes, the JDR Motorsports management decided not to risk their factory riders getting injured an therefore they did not race. However it was great to see them at the event, signing autographs and talking to the kids. JDR KTM rider, Ryan Marmont, in conjunction with Mydrade was also there interviewing riders and parents for a video wrap-up of the event.
A combined effort from East Coast MX Team, the sponsors (Transmoto Dirt Bike Magazine, JDR Motorsports, MXR&D, Tee&Cee Grafix, ThinkAll Signs, Reality Design, AXO, Ipone Oils, KTM Australia, Yamaha Australia and Motoz Tyres, Honda Australia, Lifestyle Sports and Physiotherapy, Sponsorpoint), the competitors, the volunteers and the parents culminated into a fantastic weekend for all.
The full race results will be posted on http://www.eastcoastmx.com.au as soon as they are available.
Round 2 of the East Coast MX Series will take place at Nowra in two weeks time (June 16/17).
