2020 ECMX: Round 4 Recap

5 years ago | Words: ECMX | Photos: MXPhoto

The East Coast MX Series returned to Nowra Motoplex for Round 4 of the championship, after six years since a round of the series was last held at the venue. The warmer weather made it very challenging to keep water on the track, but thanks to the many volunteers that put their hand up to hose the track down continuously through the day, the track held up well in the end. It was a weekend of consolidation as the points leaders tried to secure their championship positions but in other classes the lead tightened up and even changed hands.

In the 7-8 50cc class Lochlainn Reddy rode his Cobra to victory with 2-1-1 finishes only coming runner up in the first race to Nowra local Levi Thompson. Claire Pollard made history being the first junior girl rider to ever podium in a class at a round of East Coast MX since the series started in 2012. Claire is now tie for the championship lead in the 2020 East Coast Junior Girls MX championship, and has also moved into 3rd place in the 7-8 50cc East Coast MX championship standings heading into the final round on 14-15 November. KTM rider Jack Deveson had to work for the win in the 9-11 65cc and 9-11 85cc classes having to stave off challenges from the Husqvarna riders Riley Burgess on the 65cc and Cooper Rowe in the 85cc class.  KTM riders Ky Woods and Jyle Campbell made it a one two for the podium in the 12-15 85cc class. Although it was Woods’ overall win for the day, Campbell extended his points lead in the championship.

The depth of competition in the MX Open, 250 and 450 Pro classes was fierce, the race start was crucial to get a good result. Like many international riders Jay Lamb came over from Scotland to  Australia to pursue his racing career, unfortunately Covid-19 has prevented Jay from racing the National circuit and he has had to compete at State level only. Jay Lamb was hot on the starts every race on the weekend which set him for 2nd overall in the 450 Pro class and his first win and overall win for the season in the MX Open class with 2-3-2-1 finishes. The final MX Open moto being the most exciting where Jay had to battle all the way to the chequered flag for a full 10 laps dealing with the shadow of Rhys Budd coming in runner up. Although Budd come in 2nd on the day, he has reclaimed the championship points lead in the MX Open class. KTM rider Jess Moore was clinical in the Senior Women sweeping all 4 motos. Jess has a perfect scorecard for the series winning ever race so far this year and is yet to be challenged for the win. Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “Thank you to Tyson and everyone at the Nowra Motoplex for all your hard work on the weekend, it was great to be back at Nowra for a round of East Coast MX.”

Congratulations to the winners of Rnd3 East Coast MX at Maitland.
