The East Coast MX Series celebrated its 8th year running at the opening round In Newcastle last weekend at the Lakes Motorcycle Club. As usual the elements had an effect on the running of the event with rain and mud on Saturday with the opposite of dry and dusty on Sunday, nevertheless, the riders dealt with the difficult conditions and put on their best performances.

Jy Roberts (KTM AUSTRALIA) dominated the MX1 class winning all 4 motos, and had 3 race wins in MX2 but a mechanical problem forced Jy to DNF in his 2nd moto in MX2 which bumped him back to 4th place overall. Riley Dukes (HUSQVARNA AUSTRALIA) achieved top 3 finishes in every race to take overall victory in the MX2 class. However the biggest surprise performance was from Caleb Clifton, the young rookie who has just moved up from juniors won the 2nd moto in MX2 and finished 2nd overall for the day. Blake Fox (Motorex KTM Junior Team) swept all 3 motos in the 13-u16 250cc Junior Lites class but besides winning 2 races in the 13-u15 125cc, Blake had issues in the 2nd race finishing outside of the top 20. This gave Connor Rossandich the opportunity to rise to the top with consistent finishes 4-1-3 giving him the top step of the podium. Promoter Michel Constantinou commented, “Rnd1 is always hectic, but I am happy with the result. We had almost an all-new East Coast team due to team members retiring and others not being available for the event.  We’ll have most of our East Coast team back for Rnd2, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Congratulations to the winners of Rnd1 East Coast MX at Lakes.
