2017 East Coast MX Series: Rd 1 Results

8 years ago | Photos: MXPhoto

Round 1 of the East Coast MX Series, presented by Transmoto, was held at Lakes Motorcycle Club last weekend, February 4-5. A mass of competitors turned up with over 400 entries recorded for the weekend. After spending two years racing in the USA, Egan Mastin has returned to Australia to compete. Egan raced in a number of prestigious Amateur National events, such as Loretta Lynn’s, the World Mini Os, the Daytona Amateur Supercross and the Freestone Amateur National, where he racked up a few race wins and top five finishes but found it hard as a privateer to continue his campaign overseas. Now back home with support from KTM, Egan is set to race in MX2 class in MX Nationals this year.

Although Mastin had stiff competition in the Pro Lites from Kyle Webster and Jayden Rykers at the ECMX opener, the KTM-backed rider dominated the day. He won three of his four motos to take the Overall. Rykers did manage to take the win in the final moto, which gave him third Overall for the day, with a consistency Webster splitting the two on the podium. CRF Honda Racing’s rider Joel Wightman took out the Pro Open class with almost a perfect scorecard. He won three races, with Aaron Tanti just managing to edge him out in the second moto.
