2011 BAKERair Australian Classic Motocross Titles
There were 173 entries and just over 350 bikes at this year’s Australian Classic MX Championship, held at Crystal Brook SA last month.
The three Pre-75 classes were the standouts, with a full grid of 40 in the 250cc and 263cc+ races.
There was seven riders over 70 years old racing and around 30 riders making the trip from Western Australia. Spectacularly, Murray Williams, 74, took out the Pre-68 Sidecar event with his 26-year-old passenger, Tom Lang.
Ex-local rider, Tom Jones, was the dominated the Evo 263cc+ and Pre-85 263cc+ classes and schooled the competition on how to race a classic.
Other performers included John Boag, Nicholas Smith and Robert Knee, who all took out three titles apiece. Jodie Smith also took two titles.
Overwhelming feedback from riders said the track was one of the best they have raced on in many years and it’s a great credit to the effort put in by the small Crystal Brook club. The track stayed mostly dust free for the full three day event and it was prepared each night for the following day’s racing.
MXTV was there to cover the event and there will be a 30-minute special on Speed TV tonight.
