2010 Yamaha Rock Solid Earthworks “King of the Enduro Cross”
The 2010 Yamaha Rock Solid Earthworks King of the Enduro Cross is set to explode into life again at South Australia’s Gillman Speedway on Saturday 16th of October 2010.
Yamaha Australia and Rock Solid Earthworks have joined forces with South Australia’s Keyneton Motorcycle club for the second running of the annual event, that combines motocross, enduro and trials competition into one event. After an extremely successful event in 2009, this year is looking to be even better, with a lot of support from the sponsors and an endless list of people helping build the amazing track — being built on the infield of the Gillman Speedway.
The competition will be fierce with $2000 up for grabs, riders are already lining up for a chance to snatch the cash and be crowned the 2010 Yamaha Rock Solid Earthworks King of the Enduro Cross champion. Including second and third place from the 2009 event, Rhyce Ahola and Ivan Long. Rhyce and Ivan have been waging an epic battle in the 2010 National and South Australian Off Road Championship and they’re sure to transfer that war onto the Enduro Cross format. Ivan Long said ‘it’s a really great event, with it being the last race of the season, with good prize money up for grabs, it’s definitely a title worth fighting for and it will make for very exciting racing”.
Look out for the return of the Throup brothers, especially Tristan who missed the event in 2009 due to injury. Younger brother Nick is also showing a huge fire in the belly, climbing the ranks from clubman to expert quite rapidly. He is now starting to stir some of the Pro’s and will have a massive desire to add the Enduro Cross title to his Name. “The event is so unique, it’s very different to what we normally race. You have to be on the ball, and use every racing and riding skill in the one event” Nick explains. Steve Pontin could also make a return to the Enduro Cross in an attempt to retain his title. Other class favorites include Vets rider Peter Rudd, SAORC junior outright champion and just turned senior rider Daniel McKenzie, and J2 AORC points leader Todd Barry.
A few new Classes, J1 (9-11 65 cc), J2 (12-13 85cc 150 cc 4 stroke, and maybe a J3) will be added to the list from last year; Pro/Expert lites, Pro/Expert opens, Clubman lites, Clubman opens, Vets 35+ and Junior lites.
The King of the Enduro cross final will include the top Expert/Pro riders from both classes and the top 2 Clubmen Riders from both classes. They’ll battle it out in a survival race format, of 3 back to back moto’s where the last 5 riders will be eliminated each moto. The winner will be crowned the 2010 Yamaha Rock Solid Earthworks King of the Enduro Cross.
