1989 World 500cc Motocross Championship
The 1989 World 500cc Motocross Championship in Europe was a legendary year in motocross where 500cc two-strokes ruled. Australian, Jeff Leisk (Honda #18), was a rookie on the scene back in 1989 and, had he not run out of fuel at the opening round, would have gone on to win the World Motocross title no Aussie has ever claimed. And the footage of the boys riding Belgium’s famous Namur track is astonishing.
Pick up Issue 6 of Transmoto (on-sale Dec 29 to Feb 15) for more about Jeff Leisk’s memorable 1989 season, where he talks about his bad luck at Namur and Valkenswaard – where he ran out of fuel and DNFed.
