Yamaha No.1 in 2024 Motorcycle Sales

Yamaha Australia has ranked Number 1 in motorcycle sales, claiming the top spot for the third time in 22 years after the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) released their 2024 retail report.

While the total amount of OHV’s (Off Highway Vehicles) delivered to Australian’s in 2024 decreased 1.8% from 2023 figures, Yamaha showed growth in this declining market by increasing their overall sales by 15% – achieving them the #1 retail status.

YMA General Manager Sales and Marketing, Matthew Ferry:
“Yamaha has enjoyed a stellar 2024 due to the loyalty of our customers and the efforts of our staff, dealers and partners. Our number one status is also due to Yamaha’s wide product range that offers a choice to customers whether they commute in the city, work on the farm or enjoy recreational riding. No other brand can offer so many personal mobility solutions. Next year we aim to build on this extraordinary retail result and create even more customers for life.”

Yamaha sold 23,526 units in 2024, when the overall market size was 94,224. That makes for an overall market share of 25% across all categories – which in turn means one in every four vehicles sold in Australia by reporting brands in 2024 was a Yamaha.

Yamaha was the best selling MX brand, 2-stroke and 4-stroke combined. In terms of the Off-Road motorcycle category, Yamaha claimed second best with a market share of 29.6% – while the WR450F was noted as the second best selling enduro model on the market.

It wasn’t just the dirt where Yamaha excelled, either. The brand was also Number 1 in the road motorcycle category, with their YZF-R7LA claiming best selling road bike outright, along with the best selling Supersport model in front of the YZF-R3.

Yamaha again claimed the lead with their Ténéré 700, as it was the best selling adventure touring model in Australia. The MT-09 and MT-07L finished off Yamaha’s top results, as they were named the top two best selling ‘naked’ bikes in 2024.

Yamaha 2024 Sales Highlights:

  • Yamaha is the #1 selling MX brand – 2-stroke and 4-stroke combined
  • YZF-R7LA is #1 selling road motorcycle outright
  • YZF-R7LA and YZF-R3 are #1 and #2 selling Supersport models
