THUMPERS NATS IS BACK!

1 week ago | Words: Andy Wigan | Photos: Andy Wigan

How cool is it that, after more than two decades, the notorious Thumper Nats is set to make a return!? Yes, the “Thumpers” – as it was affectionately known during Australia’s golden era of grasstrack from 1993 to 2003 – will be making its long-awaited return on the weekend of October 5-6 at a natural terrain track (of course!) near Taree on the beautiful Barrington Coast of NSW.

Fittingly, the resurrected Thumpers – the brainchild of one of the original Thumper Nats’ founding fathers, Geoff Ballard – will be called the Ballard’s OffRoad Thumper Nats, and promoted by online parts and accessories giant (and long-time Transmoto Enduro Events series partner), MXstore. And from what “GB” tells us, the founding ethos and amateur spirit of the Thumpers will take centre stage at this 2025 rendition.

“It’s exciting to finally get the Thumpers cracking again so we can roost some more loam back into our lives,” explains the timeless Geoff Ballard. “We just thought life without Thumpers isn’t worth living! So, let’s get it cracking and make it THE grasstrack. Whoppa-Chang!”

For more information about the classes and entry links, check out the Thumper Nats blog on MXstore’s website. Word on the street is that people have been snapping up entries, so best you get in quick. Aside from racing entries, the MXsotre/Ballard’s crew are also on the hunt for some volunteers to help run the event.
