PRODUCT WE RATE: CARDO PACKTALK EDGE
If you’re like us and someone who prefers to spend more time on two wheels than four, then you know how important it is to stay connected while out on the road. Whether you’re carving up the twisties in the Blue Mountains, cruising the Great Ocean Road, or tackling the bush or red dirt in the Outback, the Cardo Packtalk Edge is a game-changer for Aussie motorcyclists.
We recently had the opportunity to give a Duo pack of the Cardo Packtalk Edge a run and, wow … talk about enhancing your riding experience!

WHAT IS IT?
Cardo’s Packtalk Edge is an evolution of one of the most trusted communication systems on the market, now more refined. The Edge brings with it a completely reimagined design, starting with the new Air Mount system – which offers a fast, magnetic connection that’s as secure as it is simple. Inside, the second-generation DMC mesh tech delivers lightning-fast pairing and crystal-clear, wideband intercom quality. The Edge also gets a redesigned JBL sound system for deeper bass and richer audio, an upgraded noise-filtering mic for clearer voice commands, along with fast-charging capabilities.
The Packtalk Edge sits at the top end of Cardo’s premium mesh range (with only the new Packtalk Pro above it) and is ranked #1 across multiple global markets. It’s loaded with features – larger 45mm JBL speakers, IP67 waterproof rating and USB-C fast charge, to name a few – and is compatible with earlier Cardo units. It’s also available in a Duo pack, where you can save a few bucks if you plan on bringing your special someone along for the ride.

WHY WE RATE IT
- BUILD QUALITY: First off, let’s talk about what makes this little device such a winner. The Cardo Packtalk Edge is a motorcycle Bluetooth communication system that clips straight onto your helmet. It’s sleek, it’s waterproof, and it’s built tough – perfect for the unpredictable Aussie conditions. Whether you’re caught in a sudden downpour or riding through a dust storm, the Edge isn’t going to pack it in on you. Just take your time installing the included JBL speakers and hiding away the wiring behind your lid’s foam padding. There’s also the option of a 3.5mm audio jack if you like to run a moulded earplug with in-built speakers.
- EASY CONNECTION, LONG LIFE: There’s a convenient Cardo app and pairing is super-easy too – no complicated buttons or weird set-ups. The magnetic Air Mount system means the unit clicks onto your helmet effortlessly, and once it’s paired, it stays paired. Battery life is solid as well – around 13 hours of talk time – so it’ll last you all day without needing a top-up.
- SOUND OF MUSIC: One of the biggest perks? Music on the go. There’s nothing like hitting the open road with your favourite tunes pumping through your helmet. The Packtalk Edge connects to your phone via Bluetooth, so you can stream music straight from Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you get your playlists. The sound quality is top-notch, thanks to JBL speakers, and you can even control it with your voice. No more fumbling with your gloves to skip a song — just say, “Hey, Cardo. Next track,” and away you go.
- CRISP AUDIO: It’s not just about music. This little beauty really shines when it comes to rider communication. Got a pillion on the back? You can chat away without yelling or tapping helmets. The sound is crystal clear, and the connection is rock-solid, so you can have a proper conversation at 110km/h without shouting your lungs out. If you choose to make or take calls with Cardo, you’ve got active noise cancellation technology on your side. I regularly get responses when I talk to people on the phone that they can’t believe I’m riding on a motorcycle! It’s that good.
- COMPATIBILITY: Riding in a group? The Packtalk Edge has you sorted there too. Thanks to its Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC), you can connect with up to 15 other riders at once. No more worrying about losing connection when someone drops back or speeds ahead – the mesh system keeps everyone linked automatically. It’s like having your mates right there with you, even when you’re stretched out over a few kays of road. You can call out hazards, plan pit stops, or just have a chinwag while soaking up the scenery. Being able to connect with other riders is an awesome function and invaluable in my role working with BMW Safari, GS Tours and GS Off Road Training, where staff can easily communicate to help with the flow of events as well as discuss any issues that may come up.
- MORE COMING: A quick heads-up for existing Cardo users – there are some great performance and reliability updates coming soon. With the ease of these updates coming via your phone, it’s yet another big win to future-proof your devices.

In a nutshell, the Cardo Packtalk Edge makes riding more enjoyable, more social, and a heck of a lot safer. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a long-distance tourer, or just popping down to the servo, it’s a solid investment in your riding experience. So, chuck one on your lid, fire up the playlist, and hit the road. With the Packtalk Edge, it’s not just the ride that’s epic – it’s the whole journey.
If you feel the need for the added features of crash detection and auto on/off, then maybe take a look at Cardo’s top-of-the-line Packtalk Pro. But for me, the Edge presents great bang for your buck at an RRP of $749.95.
