The Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, held in the Austrian mining town of Eisenerz, once again delivered a thrilling display of skill, determination, and sheer bravery. In its 27th edition, the race showcased the formidable challenge presented by the ‘Iron Giant’ mountain and its treacherous terrain. German rider Manuel Lettenbichler emerged victorious for the second consecutive year.

Winner Manuel Lettenbichler, second Trystan Hart and third Billy Bolt.

Lettenbichler, the reigning FIM Hard Enduro world champion, showcased his exceptional abilities as he overcame a field of 500 competitors in a grueling battle against the clock. With a masterful display of pacing, he bided his time, trailing behind the race leader, Billy Bolt of Great Britain. It was only in the latter stages of the race that Lettenbichler seized the opportunity to make a decisive pass and claim the lead. From that point on, he exhibited unparalleled skill and determination, crossing the finish line with a comfortable 11-minute lead over his closest rival.

The Red Bull Erzbergrodeo is renowned for its status as the most respected race in the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. This year’s edition proved no exception, as a mix of professionals and amateurs tested their mettle against the gravity-defying Erzberg mountain. The race demands not only physical endurance but also mental fortitude, as riders navigate through a course with 27 checkpoints across varied and challenging terrain.

Lettenbichler’s triumphant victory at the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo not only solidifies his status as a multiple winner but also cements his early dominance in the 2023 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. The German rider’s impressive performance at the first two stops of the championship puts him in an enviable position as the season progresses. “I’m speechless that I had such a big gap at the end. I don’t really believe it. I had a really good start and then Billy caught and passed me, and I tried to stay with him, but I couldn’t. He pulled a gap, so I tried to save some energy. When I could see him again, I decided to push and I would say he was pretty tired. Then I just rode a really good line to pass him. This race is such a crazy motorbike festival and everyone in the world just comes and wants to do this challenge and finish this race. It’s super unique. It feels amazing to win a second time in a row.” Exclaimed Lettenbicher.

Billy Bolt salvaged a commendable second-place finish despite encountering a series of setbacks throughout the race. After a disastrous start and enduring bike damage, Bolt managed to push through and secure his best-ever result at the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo. “That was my worst ever start and then the next 10 minutes was a blur, and I knew I needed to pass as many people as possible before the course got technical. I bent the front disc on my bike in the crash. I also dented my exhaust pretty badly. I’ve had a fair bit of drama, all self-induced. When Mani passed me, I thought I would struggle to keep up with him. I didn’t take it easy, I just made sure I could get home in second. But all things considered, I am very, very happy.” Said Bolt.

Canadian Trystan Hart, finishing third for the second consecutive year, showcased his potential as a consistent performer in the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. While he expressed disappointment in not achieving his desired outcome, Hart’s ability to position himself among the race leaders highlights his growing presence in the sport.

The Red Bull Erzbergrodeo is more than just a race; it is a testament to the incredible skill and courage of the riders who take on this monumental challenge. With only 17 riders out of 500 starters managing to finish the course within the allotted four-hour time limit, it is clear that the Erzbergrodeo separates the best from the rest. The event attracts a global audience of motorcycle enthusiasts, all eager to witness the triumphs and tribulations of the world’s top riders.

A group of Australian’s went over to attack the iron giant. Will Roirdan finished 23rd, Wade Ibrahim 49th, Adam Giles 51st, Billy Mcculloch 69th and Callum Ceglinski finished 90th.

As the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship progresses, the focus now shifts to the next destination: Red Bull Romaniacs in Romania.
