2025 YAMAHA WR250F: THE R&D BACKSTORY

How the hell has Yamaha’s WR250F managed to top the 250cc enduro bike sales charts in Australia ever since it was first released in 2001? Well, one of the key drivers behind this model’s enduring sales success (and multiple championship wins, for that matter) is the fact that, right from the get-go in 2001, it has been specifically developed by Australian test riders for typical Australian terrain. 

That R&D ethos continues to apply to the 2025 WR250F, which has come in for a complete ‘new platform’ overhaul and has just landed on Aussie dealer floors. So, to get more of an insight into the development process behind this latest iteration of the WR250F – and the pivotal role Australian riders played in its design and final settings – we spoke with ShopYamaha Off-Road Racing Team’s AJ Roberts; a former multiple AORC champ who has been heavily involved in the WR250F’s collaborative R&D process with YMC in Japan…
