Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing’s James Stewart broke the internet last week when he announced that he wouldn’t be contesting the AUS-X Open – the fifth round of the 2015 Australian Supercross Championship – in Sydney later this month. The event promoters flew to the US immediately to resolve the issue and within 48 hours, James changed his mind (he says it was because he couldn’t handle the negative backlash from Aussie fans via social media) and an official press release was issued. All James had to do was make it through the weekend’s Paris-Lille SX in France without injuring himself, and he’d make it Down Under with no issues. As the man’s luck goes, though, he crashed on the first night of competition (on the first lap) and injured his ankle. The extent of the injury is yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for updates.

Speaking of Lille, America’s Weston Peick was crowned the ‘King’ of the 2015 event after winning on Saturday night and coming in second behind Frenchman Christophe Pourcel on Sunday night. Pourcel finished the event in second Overall, followed by America’s Cooper Webb in third. 2015 MXGP champ, Romain Febvre, finished in seventh.

After spending almost a quarter of a century away from Suzuki, 42-year-old Stefan Everts, who has 10 World Championship titles and 101 Grand Prix victories to his name, has assumed the role of Team Principal at Geboers Racing Promotions and will lead Suzuki World MXGP riders, Kevin Strijbos and Ben Townley, into the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship. Jeremy Seewer and Brian Hsu will gun the team’s RM-Z250s in the MX2 class while Bas Vaessen will enter the EMX250 European Championship.

In 2016, Australian teenagers Hunter and Jett Lawrence will be racing for the Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team in Europe. Hunter (16) and Jett (12) discovered Europe when they successfully contested the FIM Junior World Championship – Jett was crowned the 65cc World Champion in 2014, while Hunter got a second in the 85cc class in 2013 and a third in the 125cc class this summer. Both grabbed new titles in Australia this year, too – 125cc and 250cc Junior titles for Hunter, and an 85cc Junior title for Jett. The family has now accumulated 11 Australian national titles. Hunter will enter the European MX2 series while Jett will race selected 85cc races all over Europe.

It’s been confirmed that Husqvarna’s 2016 MXGP rider line-up will consist of Max Nagl and Christophe Charlier in the MXGP class, and Max Anstie and Thomas Covington in MX2. The news leaves Australia’s Todd Waters without a ride after spending two years with Husqvarna overseas. Word on the street is that he could be signing with CDR Yamaha here in Australia, alongside Dean Ferris, who is also leaving Husqvarna’s MXGP program after two years.

The 2015 Australian Supercross Championship will continue this weekend with round four at Jimboomba. CDR Yamaha’s Dan Reardon will be looking to strengthen his points lead over Team Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss before next weekend’s AUS-X Open, while Penrite Honda’s Jimmy Decotis will look to claim another SX2 win. Altherm JCR Yamaha’s Jay Wilson, the 2015 MX2 MX Nationals champ, will also make a return to racing this weekend after injuring himself ahead of the 2015 Motocross of Nations.

In this issue, we analyse the 14-season rivalry between Chad Reed and James Stewart that will soon reignite Down Under, ask Ryan Villopoto about his European experiment (as well as his retirement), and get to know the 2015 MXGP champ that came out of nowhere, Romain Febvre. In the way of bikes, we compare Yamaha’s 2016-model 250cc machines, pick apart Antoine Meo’s E2-class winning KTM 350EXC-F, and take a look at Josh Sheehan’s Honda CRF450R that he Triple-Flipped into the record books.

CDR Yamaha’s Chris Hollis offers up some sage advice on racing enduro in Australia, and we explain how to get your bike’s footpegs, rear brake pedal and gear-shift lever properly adjusted for your big, booted hooves. We also applaud Team Australia’s winning International Six Days Enduro teams with a 14-page tribute in the form of a stunning pictorial.
