The Glen Helen National offered up some action-packed racing, which saw GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin go 1-1 in their respective 450 and 250 classes. Tomac and Musquin fended off multiple challenges from Ryan Dungey and Jessy Nelson, creating some awesome entertainment for the American fans over the Memorial Day weekend. The 2015 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship now moves to Thunder Valley, where riders will be eager to prove that Tomac and Musquin don’t have this thing in the bag, just yet.

We have to give props to Jeremy Martin, who after missing the gate drop of the opening moto at Glen Helen due to mechanical issues, battled his way through the field up to an impressive fifth. In the second moto, he tangled with Nelson and went down, but was able to fight back to sixth, to finish in seventh Overall on the day. Martin, the Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha rider, posted the image below to his Instagram feed, with the caption, “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, that’s when you’ll be successful.” A true charger!

And before we move on from Glen Helen talk, we’d just like to make sure that you’re all aware of the fact that Justin Barcia can still ride a dirt bike, incredibly well. He went 2-4 to claim second Overall over the weekend, something that many people doubted was within Bam Bam’s reach.

Victorian Yamaha-mounted racer, Maddy Brown, went 6-5 to finish fourth Overall on debut at the weekend’s round of the 2015 FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship, staged at Matterley Basin. The reigning Australian Women’s MX champ jetted off to Europe early last week to compete in several rounds of the WMX Championship. “I’m so excited to finish fourth at my very first GP,” said Brown excitedly. “I had no idea what to expect when we got here. I didn’t know how fast the other girls would be. I didn’t know how the event worked or how good my bike was so it was such a big learning curve for me and my Mum. The next round is in France and I hope that I can go better now that I know how everything works and with some more time on my bike.”

The 2015 MX Nationals moves to Coolum in Queensland this weekend for the first of two rounds this year. In the MX1 class, keep your eyes on front-runners, Kirk Gibbs, Kade Mosig, Luke Styke and Kiwi wildcard, Ben Townley. In the MX2 class, expect Murray Bridge winner, Caleb Ward, to step up and battle again with Serco Yamaha’s Luke Clout.

American Josh Hill and Kiwi Brad Groombridge have been confirmed to race the 2015 edition of the Manjimup 15,000, set to take place at the picturesque Cosy Creek circuit on June 5-7. “I can’t wait to get down to Western Australia and race the Manjimup 15,000, and take on the world’s best and see how I stack up,” said Hill. Over 8,000 spectators and riders attended the event in 2014, and with the announcement of Hill and Groombridge, plus a host of national riders yet to be announced, the event can be expected to pull in a crowd of similar figures.

The KTM Enduro Racing Team had a perfect weekend in Wanbi, South Australia, going 1-2-3 on Saturday and Sunday at the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2015 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC). The podium for the sprint round finished in the exact same order as the cross country round, with Toby Price taking out both the Overall and E3 class win for the fifth time this season, ahead of teammates, Tye Simmonds and Daniel Sanders. The occupants of the fourth and fifth positions also didn’t alter, with CDR Yamaha’s Chris Hollis and Active8 Yamaha’s Josh Green rounding out the top five on both days. In the Transmoto 19 & Under class, Lyndon Snodgrass rebounded from the disappointment of missing the podium in the cross country to finish ahead of round five winner, Tom Mason. In the Women’s class, Tayla Jones, Jess Gardiner Emelie Karlsson stood atop the podium on both days.

CDR Yamaha’s Tom McCormack is recovering well in Adelaide Hospital after falling from his bike on Sunday, contesting the AORC round in Wanbi. McCormack, who had just returned from a broken wrist, fell and lay on the track motionless while fellow riders, including his brother Mike, rushed to his aid. Officials then stopped the event to allow the Ambulance personnel to give McCormack their full attention and the Care-flight Helicopter was called. His injures were diagnosed as five broken vertebrae in the Cervical region, punctured lung, some spleen damage as well as general soreness and bruising. Thankfully, there was no spinal cord damage and McCormack has feeling and movement in all limbs. Doctors operated on Sunday night to stabilise the area with two rods inserted, two vertebrae fused and also repair the damaged lung. The operations were successful and McCormack tentatively took his first steps Monday afternoon and is expected to make a full recovery, but will remain in hospital care for at least another week. We send you our best, mate.
